"what lies beneath"

This is an earlier scene from All My Sons with scene partner Jennifer Byers. I came to love and will always remember this monologue. To me it is one that showcases a range of emotion. Of course now it is too long for an audition piece as you barely get to say hello anymore, if you can't act in 90 seconds, and that is with 2 contrasting monologues then no one wants to see you. I remember rehearsing this scene and the actor that previously had this role had his only night off from School House Rock LIVE so he came to see the rehearsal. He also lived with Jennifer and they were a couple, after I had finished the scene he burst out in applause, that really made my day. Jennifer is a fabulous scene partner and to her credit never said if Trey was better or I, she would say there were things we both brought to the role that she appreciated. One fun side note two of my sons were in this production, they both played the neighborhood boy, I think in the script he was called Burt, but the director Jill Chukerman Test didn't want to discourage either of my sons (Jake and Daniel) so she turned the role into two boys and called them Burt and Ernie.
